A 6-Week Study Plan for the Station Agent Exam
A realistic 6-week study plan for the NYC MTA Station Agent Exam, with weekly targets, drills, and a full-length mock schedule.
Six weeks is the sweet spot for most working candidates: long enough to build durable accuracy in every section, short enough that momentum doesn't collapse. This plan assumes about 5–7 hours of study per week.
Week 1 — Diagnose
- Read the NOE once. Highlight every tested ability.
- Take one full-length diagnostic under real time constraints.
- Score it and note the two weakest sections. Those become your priority for weeks 2–3.
Weeks 2–3 — Fix the weakest section
Spend 70% of your study time on the weakest section, 30% keeping your stronger sections warm. Do short daily drills (20–30 minutes) rather than long weekend sessions — the exam rewards consistency, not cramming.
Week 4 — Rotate all sections
Balance coverage across every tested area. Introduce timed 25-question sets so pacing becomes automatic before you sit for your next full-length.
Week 5 — Full-length practice
- Two full-length mocks this week, taken under exam conditions.
- Review every wrong answer — write out why the correct answer beats the trap.
- Track your section-level scores; the trend matters more than the raw number.
Week 6 — Taper
Cut study volume in half. Focus on light review, sleep, and logistics: know the test center address, the ID you must bring, and your route in.
